Referendums triggered for no apparent reason are all the rage this week, aren't they?
So we thought we'd hold a public vote of our own.
We've picked three of our favourite brands, chosen a style we think would work well bra-free from each, and now we'd like to know WHAT YOU THINK!
That's right. Vote in our comments section and tell us who you think is the winner, and you could win a prize!
First up the Coast campaign. No dirty tricks here, just high street glamour with special emphasis on occasion-wear chic. Dressing up for events is Coast's speciality and their Maui Top ticks all their usual boxes. It's chic, smart and feminine and comes in a gorgeous colour with a tropical print. Prints and patterns are great for creating distraction on a flat-chested front, and the floaty layers here add volume and interest to the chest area. At the same time the cold shoulders expose flesh and look sexy without revealing any cleavage. The metal in the halter neck is an additional glamorous feature drawing the eye away from the bust. This top is now only £39 in the Coast sale.
The next contender is of course Ghost. This luxury label originally started in West London and is loved by boho divas everywhere for its vintage-influenced, easy-to-wear designs. The thing about Ghost dresses and tops is that they fit and flatter most shapes and sizes, clinging in all the right places. We have deliberately picked a top, however, that won't cling around the bust, but is instead elasticated, Bardot-style, around the shoulders, employing delicate straps for an optional cold-shoulder effect. The Fifi Poppie blouse has a vintage print, coupled with usefully distracting ties and keyhole detailing around the neckline. Our model Kate was pleased to find that the straps are adjustable, so that the top can be moved up or down for an individual fit across the top of the chest. We love the fluted sleeves, which come from another era, and invite a romantic Summer ahead. This top is £120 and, we reckon, a classic seasonal investment piece.
And finally we come to Toast. The British brand who re-interpret work-wear for everyday living, and appeal to those aspiring to a slightly edgy, slightly alternative lifestyle. Minimalist hipsters who like to think that next year they will walk from rugged British coastlines, listening to Nature as they travel - all the way to the sacred fig trees of India. Presumably to meditate in a djellaba (which they sell) or paddle in Salt-water sandals (also available to buy). This Space-Dyed Linen top is easy to wear and stylish, and feels very durable to the touch. There's a kaftan opening to the neck, and small splits to the sides, adding to the feeling of practicality, comfort and ease. We think the pattern, texture and boxy style mean that it's perfect for smart, everyday bra-free style, and the natural fabric feels wonderful against the skin. It's in the sale at just £47.
Thanks to our models, who all did their best to smile very early one morning, reserving the right to keep their sunglasses firmly in place.
Let us know who you think has made it first past the post - Coast, Ghost or Toast - and why?
